培养英语专业学生的批判性思维能力的策略的研究

批判性思维已成为当今国内外高等教育研究的一个热点问题。1998年的世界高等教育会议指出,高等教育机构必须教育学生批判地思考和分析问题;课程需要改革以超越对学科知识简单的认知性掌握,课程必须包含获得在多元文化条件下批判性、创造性分析的技能。新拟定的《英语专业学生英语教学大纲》要求学生不仅要有良好的英语语言能力,还要注重思维能力和创新能力的培养。批判性思维能力有利于大学生在信息社会的生存与发展,促进大学生身心健康发展,推动创新以提升国家的综合国力。
近年来,不少专家学者对英语专业学生的思维发展表现出极大的担忧,如文秋芳指出:“多年来,我国英语专业教学一直存在着重语言能力训练、轻思维能力培养的倾向。因此,英语专业大学生的思辨能力低于其他文科类大学生。”本文针对此现状,探讨如何培养英语专业学生的批判性思维能力。首先回顾了国内外对批判性思维能力的研究,依据批判性思维技能、大学生批判性思维发展规律、建构主义的理论提出了英语专业学生如何在听、说、读、写过程中培养批判性思维能力的策略,旨在帮助英语专业学生发展批判性思维能力。

Abstract

Critical thinking has now become a hot topic in higher education internationally. It was noted that higher education institutions are supposed to train students to think over and analyze problems critically and the curricula need to be reformed so that students can acquire the skills for critical and creative analysis under the multi-cultural circumstances to transcend the simple mastery of knowledge in a certain discipline in 1998 World Conference on Higher Education. According to the requirements of the newly revised National English Language Curriculum for English Majors, students should not only have a good command of the English language, but also pay attention to the cultivation of thinking and innovative ability. Critical thinking ability is beneficial to college students’ survival and development in the Information Age, to promote students’ physical and mental development and to accelerate innovation so as to enhance the overall national strength.
In recent years, many experts and scholars have shown great concern about English majors’ thinking ability. Wen Qiufang pointed out that “Over the years, there has always been a tendency of laying emphasis on language skills training while neglecting the cultivation of thinking ability in English teaching in China. Therefore, the critical thinking ability of English majors is lower than students of other disciplines of liberal arts.” In regard to this current situation, the dissertation studies on how to cultivate English majors’ critical thinking ability. By reviewing the domestic and foreign studies on critical thinking ability, the strategies for cultivating English majors’ critical thinking ability in listening, speaking, reading, and writing are proposed on the basis of critical thinking skills, law of college students’ critical thinking development and constructivism. The aim is to help English majors to develop their critical thinking ability.
