Abstract
Questioning is a critical activity in courses, occupying 20%-40% among interactive activities, and playing a key role in language acquisition. It not just a way to get the answer from students, but guarantee the participation of students to think and learn. An effective question can inspire students’ interest, delight their thinking, assess knowledge acquisition, adjust atmosphere of a class, and offer timely feedback. Therefore, the paper focuses on the characteristics and principles of effective questions and how to apply effective questions in English classes in junior high school.
