THE APPLICATION OF COMPLIMENT IN INTERNATIONAL NEGOTIATION
—A PRAGMATIC APPROACH

Abstract: In recent years, the external trade between domestic enterprises and the foreign companies has grown rapidly. In the process, business negotiation plays an important role. Business negotiation is the behavior and process of the people in different countries and regions in the business party, with a purpose of meeting their needs and achieving consensus through information exchange and consultation. With the soaring speed of development of Chinese external trade, international business negotiation as a key link is playing an increasingly important role in it. The compliment, a kind of speech act, reflects different social and cultural values in international business negotiation. The subject of this research is application of compliments in international business negotiation, focusing on function, content and realization through pragmatics so as to disclose the similarities and the differences in the use of compliments between Chinese and English.

摘要:近年来,中国企业与外国企业间开展的多边合作迅猛发展。在众多合作中,商务谈判扮演了重要角色。商务谈判是一种通过信息交流与磋商、以实现不同国家和地区谈判者的需要和取得共识的行为过程。随着中国的对外贸易的迅速发展,作为重要环节的国际商务谈判的作用日益显现。恭维语作为一种使用频率较高的言语交际行为,在国际商务谈判中体现了不同社会和文化价值。本文以国际商务谈判中恭维语为研究对象,从语用功能的角度出发,研究恭维语的功能、内容和实现方式以便发现中英文恭维语使用方法的相似性和差异,用以更好地指导国际商务谈判。
