美国媒体眼中的中国形象——由《南方周末》事件引发的思考本文由《南方周末》事件引发了对于美国主流媒体眼中的中国形象的思考。本文通过两部分重点分析美国主流媒体眼中的中国形象。一方面,以《时代》周刊2012年度《时代》周刊涉华新闻报道为研究对象,运用议程设置理论从涉华报道总量、报道倾向性、选择议题等进行分析。同时,为深入地了解中国形象,我旨在通过案例分析探求如何构架新闻事件。在对《时代》周刊研究中,我发现中国形象再塑过程受到多种因素影响。另一方面,即时的新媒体将我们带入了互动式数字时代。自媒体的兴起带来了更明显的需求导向,传统媒体也在开拓新领域。从中美知名社交网络的调查结果显示,中美在同一议题上走向明显不同。美国公众眼中仍然高比例的呈现出负面的中国形象。这表明新媒体对于中国形象构建产生了重要的影响作用。在未来的中国形象研究中,我们应更关注新媒体形态带来的变化。

Abstract: In this article, the event of Southern Weekend firstly inspired me to think about the image of China from the viewpoint of American media. This paper focuses on the image of China from the viewpoint of US mainstream media from two sides. On the one hand, the author studies China-related coverages on TIME last year, using the theory of agenda-setting to analyze the issue from three aspects: the total amount of China-related reports, the report attitudes and the agenda selections. Meanwhile, in order to understand the China's image in depth, the author aims to explore how to frame the news events through case study. In research of TIME the author found that reshaping China's image is influenced by a variety of factors. On the other hand, real-time new media ushers us to the interactive digital age. The development of we-media not only brings obvious needs for orientation, but also promotes the traditional media to explore new areas. However, results from the famous social network in China and the United States illustrate that the the subjects of the same event are distinctly different. Images of China in the American public still have a high proportion of negative impressions. This indicates that new media has significant impacts on the construction of China's image. In the future, in researching the China's image, we should pay more attention to the changes in the new media form.
