《德伯家的苔丝》中苔丝悲剧的原因

 Thomas Hardy was a famous critical realistic writer at the turn of 19th century in England; Tess of the D’Urbervilles is the most influential one of all his works. This novel describes a tragedy about a beautiful and pure girl Tess after disgrace. Her tragic life is caused by many reasons. Social environment and family environment are two essential causes of this tragedy. Based on the analysis of the weakness in main characters’ personality, this paper intends to discuss the reasons causing Tess’s death from family, society, Alec’s villainy and Angel Clare’s love.

摘要: 《德伯家的苔丝》是19世纪之交英国著名的批判现实主义作家托马斯·哈代所有作品中最有影响力的作品。小说描述了一个美丽而纯洁的少女苔丝失身后悲惨的命运。造成苔丝悲剧人生的原因有许多。社会环境和家庭环境是这一悲剧的重要原因。基于文中主角个性弱点的分析，本文从家庭、社会、亚历克恶行和安奇尔·克莱尔的爱等这四个方面讨论苔丝之死的原因。
