解读凯伦·布里克森的女性意识

Abstract

Karen Blixen is famous for her autobiographical novel-Out of Africa, which brings her everlasting international prestige. In Out of Africa, Karen poetically portrays her unique life experiences in Africa from the female perspective. The novel highlights Karen’s feminine consciousness and feminist literary thoughts in a patriarchal society. Firstly, this paper presents a general definition of feminine consciousness, and then demonstrates the awakening process of Karen Blixen’s feminine consciousness through analyzing Karen’s early life. Secondly, this paper interprets Karen Blixen’s Feminine Consciousness revealed in her life. In her early life, Karen’s feminine consciousness is mainly revealed through her disgust for the tradition-bound and the courage to pursue various forms of freedom; in her later life, Karen’s feminine consciousness is mainly revealed by her refusal to accept the traditional definition of women and her attempt to maintain autonomy in marriage and love. Lastly, this paper analyzes Karen Blixen’s feminine consciousness reflected in Out of Africa. Karen presents the readers with her unique experiences in Out of Africa. Both the creation of Out of Africa and the content displayed in it reflect Karen Blixen’s feminine consciousness.
