On the Symbols of the White Whale in Moby ABSTRACT Moby Dick is the masterpiece of Herman Melville，famous American novelist of 19th century . It tells a story about Captain Ahab’s crazy chase of Moby Dick, the White Whale, which leads to the tragic ending. Melville used a lot of symbolism in the novel, which made the novel full of literary value above time and space. The white whale, Moby Dick, is the most important symbol in Melville's novel. It means many things. In this essay, I study systematically about its symbols. Altogether the symbols of the white whale are divided into three parts in this essay -- the symbol of nature, color and religion.Key Words: the white whale; symbol; conflict

摘 要
《莫比•迪克》(又名《白鲸》) 是美国19 世纪小说家赫尔曼•麦尔维尔的著名长篇小说，讲述了捕鲸船长亚哈追杀一条名叫莫比•迪克的大白鲸的悲剧故事。麦尔维尔充分运用象征主义手法,创造了小说超时空的文学价值。其中，白鲸是最重要最复杂的象征物,具有多层象征意义。本文从自然、颜色、宗教三个方面系统研究白鲸的象征意义。
