A Comparative Study on Culture Connotation of English and Chinese Animal Words

Abstract: To some extent, animals have no boundary between nations. While in the process of overcoming the nature, people get to know more about the nature and the features of animals and endowed them with similar or different connotations. The uniqueness of each culture deeply immerged in the language that serves as carrier and a reflecting mirror of culture, which may lead to the barrier of communication. This thesis explains the formation, definition and development of cultural connotations by the way of cultural comparison, analysis and induction. This thesis not only makes a comparative analysis of the similarities and differences between the cultural connotations of animal words in English and Chinese, but also discusses the main reasons, so that it can provide a deeper understanding of language and culture connotations and explore the instructive significance of vocabulary learning and translation.

英汉动物词汇国俗语义与对比分析

【摘要】从某种程度上讲，动物是没有国家界限的，而人类在征服自然的过程中，通过对动物特征的不断了解，赋予了他们相同或不同的文化内涵。这种文化的差异反映在语言中，成为了交流的障碍。本文以比较研究及归纳与推理相结合的方法, 从认知的角度，通过文化对比、语例分析和归纳，对动物词汇国俗语义的性质、产生、以及发展规律做出阐释，主要针对动物词汇在英汉语中国俗语义的异同之处进行对比分析，揭示其共性与差异，探讨产生异同的原因，从而更深层次地理解语言文化内涵，探索其对词汇学习以及翻译的指导意义。
