浅议英语对法语词汇学习的积极影响

Abstract
English and French both belong to the Indo-European language family though they are not in the same language branch. Based on the fact that in A New English-Chinese Dictionary(Special English Dictionary Compiling Group,2005), around 46 per cent of the  English vocabulary is borrowed from French, 20 per cent from Latin, 10 per cent from Italian and still some other words are from German, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese and so on. It is obvious that French loanwords have produced more influence on the development and formation of the English vocabulary. Moreover certain English words can also be found in the French vocabulary. When learning these two languages, the writer finds that there are many similarities and intimate relationship between English and French. This paper aims to make a study into French loanwords as well as the phonetics, forms and spellings of the English words. In this thesis, the writer also attempts to make a study into some historical and cultural roots of the two languages. Being an English major, the writer has intentionally taken French as a second foreign language. It is quite sure that making an exploration into the similarities between English and French may help some English and French learners a great deal in their vocabulary accumulation and learning efficiency.

英语和法语同属于印欧语系,尽管它们不同属于一个支流。基于编入《新英汉词典》中的外来语，法语占外来语总数的46%左右，其次为拉丁语，占总数的20%，意大利语占10%，德语，西班牙语，日语，汉语等占24%。很明显的法语外来词对英语影响最深。再者法语也从英语中借入部分的词汇。当学习这两种语言时作者发现英语与法语之间存在很多的相似之处。法语对英语有着很深远的影响，最明显最直接就体现在词汇上。本文中主要探讨英语和法语外来词和语音音位系统以及词汇的形态，拼写。并揭示了其历史文化背景和其对整个英国社会的影响。作者也是英语专业学生而且第二外语也是法语，并对英语和法语产生浓厚的学习兴趣。因为我们能在英语和法语中找到很多的相似之处，作者认为这些相似之处可以有助于英语法语学习者词汇的积累增加。
