浅析《姐姐的守护者》中明喻和暗喻的用法
明喻和暗喻是英语中常见的修辞格，就像其他的修辞格一样，有了它们的修饰，文章会更加生动形象且别有风味。明喻和暗喻的相同之处在于两者都是用与一个物体有相似之处的另一个物体来描述或说明这个物体，以达到传神的表达效果，区别在于明喻手法中出现比喻词而暗喻中则没有比喻词的出现。本文通过列举出《姐姐的守护者》中的明喻和暗喻手法，来分析这两种修辞格是如何在文章中帮助作者刻画人物,叙述事件的。
本文除了引言和结论以外，分为三章。第一章会介绍明喻和暗喻这两种修辞格的定义以及朱迪·皮考特（《姐姐的守护者》的作者）的写作特点并且详细介绍小说的主要内容。第二章将分别从明喻和暗喻的分类和用法角度来分析小说作者如何运用这两种修辞手法以刻画丰满的人物形象的。第三章从分类和用法的角度分析小说中出现的明喻和暗喻对于叙述事件的帮助。
本文在梳理、分析《姐姐的守护者》中明喻和暗喻两种修辞手法运用的同时，对作者所表达的思想感情有了更加深入的理解。

Abstract
Metaphor and simile are two figures of speech that we often encounter in reading. Actually, similes and metaphors are both ornaments of English language and they should be used tastefully and vividly. What they share in common is that they both compare something to something else. The difference lies in that simile compares something to something else, using comparative words like or as. While in metaphor there is no comparative word like or as. In this thesis, these two rhetorical devices will be analyzed to figure out how they are used to portray characters and narrate events by enumerating the metaphors and similes used in My Sister’s Keeper.
This thesis is divided into three chapters besides the introduction and the conclusion. The first chapter will introduce definitions of metaphor and simile respectively and the writing characteristics of Jodi Picoult (author of My Sister’s Keeper) and introduce the main content of the novel My Sister’s Keeper in detail. The second chapter will analyze how the author of the novel uses these two figures of speech to achieve the portrayal of well-rounded characters from the perspective of the classifications and uses of similes and metaphors. The third chapter will analyze the applications of metaphor and simile to narrate events in the novel from the perspective of their uses and classifications.
This paper comb through and analyzes the applications of simile and metaphor in My Sister’s Keeper and at the same time has a deeper understanding of the thoughts and feelings expressed by the author in this novel.
