《红楼梦》杨译本典故的“深度翻译”及其文化传递

作为“中国社会的百科全书”，《红楼梦》涉及了中国社会生活的方方面面，对于了解中国文化及社会具有重大意义。《红楼梦》中用典无数，这些典故都包含着丰富的历史文化知识。一方面，这些典故使得《红楼梦》极具中国文化特色，成为中国文学史上的不朽杰作；而另一方面，由于其中包含的中国传统文化因素，典故的翻译成为跨文化交流的一大障碍。典故翻译要求译者不仅关注字面意义，更要关注蕴藏在典故背后那博大精深的中国历史文化。深度翻译理论由美国翻译理论家阿皮亚提出，旨在为目标语读者提供进行阅读所必需的背景文化知识，便于其理解作品。本文以阿皮亚的深度翻译理论为指导，研究杨译本《红楼梦》中典故的翻译方法。在深度翻译理论指导下，译者既传递了典故的内涵信息，又保留了典故的文化韵味，有利于中国文化的传播与交流。

Abstract

As an encyclopedia of Chinese society, A Dream of Red Mansions involving almost every aspect of Chinese social life, is of great significance in knowing about Chinese culture and society. The numerous allusions here in A Dream of Red Mansions carry rich historical and cultural knowledge. On the one hand, these allusions endow this book with Chinese cultural characteristics, making it an eternal masterpiece in Chinese literature history; on the other hand, allusion translation has become an obstacle in cultural transmission because of the traditional Chinese cultural elements hid in it. In allusion translation, translators should pay attention to not only the literal meaning as well as the profound and extensive Chinese history and culture contained in the allusions. Thick Translation Theory, put forward by American translation theorist Appiah, refers to the supply of necessary background information and cultural knowledge, so that the target language readers may better understand the original work. This thesis is going to study the methods of allusion translation in Yang’s version under the perspective of Thick Translation. With Thick Translation Theory, translators not only pass on the contents and information of allusions to the target language readers, but also keep the cultural relish of allusions, which is conductive to the spread and communication of Chinese culture.
