浅析《雾都孤儿》中的善及其对恶的影响

摘  要

查尔斯•狄更斯是19世纪英国伟大的批判现实主义作家。《雾都孤儿》是狄更斯重要的社会问题小说作品之一，小说成功地塑造了众多善良的和邪恶的人物。狄更斯从基督仁爱出发，主张行善，勿以暴力抗恶，他基本上是按照善有善报，恶有恶报来安排情节和划分人物类型的。本文集中分析了《雾都孤儿》中善及其对恶的影响。论文首先阐述了狄更斯小说特色及善与恶的定义，在此基础上，论文分析了善在奥利佛，露西，布朗劳身上的体现，总结了善对恶的影响，即善能改造恶、消灭恶。通过以上分析，论文旨在更好地理解狄更斯的仁爱主张。

An Analysis of Goodness and Its Impact on Evil in Oliver Twist
 

ABSTRACT

Charles Dickens is the greatest representative of English critical realism in the nineteenth century. Oliver Twist is one of Dickens’s major social problem novels. In this novel, Dickens portrayed many good natured and evil characters. Most of Charles Dickens’s works reflect the theme of benevolence. And he believed that “Bad deeds, as well as good, may rebound upon the doer”. In this thesis, the author focuses on benevolence ideology represented in this novel by analyzing some characters in this novel, such as Oliver Twist, Rose and Brownlow. What’s more, the thesis analyzes the influence of goodness on evil. That is, goodness may correct evil, the evil that can not be corrected will eventually be wiped out. Through the analysis, the author of the present paper intends to achieve better understanding of Dickens’s benevolence ideal.
