《荆棘鸟》中女性命运分析
摘  要

英语文学名著《荆棘鸟》是澳大利亚文学家考琳•麦卡洛的一部家族史长篇小说，女性命运是其突出主题之一。论文从整体角度对小说中八位女性的命运进行分析，既有对鲜明女性角色的命运分析，也有对不太起眼的女性角色的命运分析，从而体现出对人和人性的重视。论文首先从爱情和婚姻两个方面展现女性角色的命运；接着，从社会和个人两个角度，即从故事所处年代的女性地位和宗教信仰，以及人物自身的个性特征，对女性命运之成因加以分析；最后，论文从抗争和屈服两个方面分析小说中女性对命运的态度，即她们如何看待自身命运并如何选择，由此指出女性对命运的不屈服将引导自身走向光明宽广之境。

Analysis of Female Fate in The Thorn Birds
 

ABSTRACT

The Thorn Birds, a famous English literary work written by the Australian writer Colleen McCullough, is a family saga with female fate as one of its most prominent themes. The thesis analyses eight females’ fate, including fate of the outstanding female characters and fate of not so outstanding female characters, in order to show respect to human and human nature. Firstly, the thesis shows what females’ fate is like from love and marriage aspects. Then, the thesis analyses the factors which contribute to female fate from social and personal perspectives, during which women status, religious belief and female characters’ personalities are analysed. Finally, the thesis discusses females’ attitudes towards fate, namely, how females react to their fate and what they choose. This is done from two aspects: one is compromise and surrender, and the other is struggle and fight, which shows that it is not giving in to fate that will lead women to a promising and hopeful world.
