英汉姓名的文化阐释对比研究
摘  要

文章通过对比的方法研究汉英姓名的异同及其所反映的文化内涵。通过对汉英姓氏的来源及汉英名字发展演变的对比研究揭示出汉英深层文化内涵及社会文化因素对姓名的影响。汉英文化的共性，如图腾崇拜、姓名崇拜、寻根意识、心理暗示及文化的性别差异等使汉英姓名系统中出现一些类同的现象。汉英文化内涵的差异，如中国的宗族观念、崇儒思想、等级制度、群体取向、求美心理和汉文化的同化性等文化因素都可以从中国人的姓名中反映出来。而英语民族的宗教观念、个人取向、强调个性及英语民族文化的包容性也在英语姓名中有所反映。姓名的发展变化可以反映出一个社会的时代变化，而历史文化的发展变化也影响人们的命名过程，从而在姓名中留下其印记。
    对汉英姓名及其文化内涵的对比研究有助于加强中西文化的交流，有助于我们进一步了解英语民族及其内在文化，有助于跨文化交际的顺利进行。

A Comparative Study on Cultural Interpretations
of English and Chinese Names
 
ABSTRACT

In the paper, the writer makes comparative studies on the similarities and differences in Chinese and English personal names and their culture connotation. The comparisons are made in the origin of Chinese and English family names and the development of Chinese and English given names. These indicate the influence of deep-going cultural connotations and different social cultures on Chinese and English names. There are many cultural elements in Chinese and English culture that lead to the similarities between Chinese and English name, i.e. totemism, worship of names, and consciousness of root-seeking. The different cultural connotation, for example, the family idea, Confucianism, hierarchy, group orientation, and the pursuit of aesthetic and the assimilation of Han culture are all reflected in Chinese names, while the religion, individualism orientation and people pay attention to personality are also reflected in English names. The development of names can show the changing of society in different times. The development culture also influences the process of naming and leaves its marks on names.
The comparative study on Chinese and English names and culture connotation helps the communication of Chinese culture and western culture.  It helps us make a better understanding of English people and their culture, thus the intercultural communication can be more effective.
