该文作者以模糊限制语在新闻英语中的应用为研究课题。首先，作者对新闻英语及模糊限制语的定义、特征及分类进行了简要的介绍。接着, 作者阐述了新闻英语报道中大量存在模糊限制语的原因及其存在的必然性和合理性。作者还重点讨论了新闻英语中模糊限制语的功能，如：达到礼貌效果，符合读者习惯，避免负面影响和增加可信度等。最后作者指出模糊限制语在新闻英语中的存在是非常必要的，通过模糊限制语往往能加强新闻报道的可靠性、客观性和即时性。

An Analysis of Hedges in Journalistic English
 
ABSTRACT

The author of this thesis takes the application of hedges in journalistic English as the research topic. Firstly, the definition, classification and features of journalistic English are briefly introduced. Then an analysis of the causes, necessity and rationality of the hedges in journalistic English is expounded. Besides, the author engages in the functions of hedge in the journalistic English, which are, achieving politeness, respecting the reader’s habits, avoiding the negative effects and increasing creditability. At the end of this paper, the author concludes that journalistic English not only permits the existence of hedge but also relies on it to reflect the reliability, objectivity and timeliness.
