Abstract

Car is an essential vehicle for the Americans. Because the U.S. is sparsely populated, the distribution of their place of residence, business district, and kindergarten is very scattered, the range of driving is about half an hour. The popularity of cars is the US’s unique beautiful landscape different from other countries. Therefore, the US is called a country on the wheels, cars do not only facilitate the travel of U.S. citizens, but also has a profound impact on the American culture from all aspects. This issue will be discussed in depth in this paper. This paper consists of five parts. Part one is an introduction, in which the author will focus on the writing background and purpose of this paper. In part two, the author will give a brief introduction to the development of American automobile culture from three aspects: the appearance of automotive advertising, the introduction of automobile regulation as well as automobile reviews. In part three, the author will focus on the positive impact of automobile on American culture from three aspects: the impact on American value, the impact on American national character as well as the impact on American social and cultural psychology. In part four, the author will introduce the negative impact of automobile on American culture from two aspects: hurt on human beings brought by automobile race and culture of violence brought by automobile race. Part five is the conclusion of this paper, in which the author will make a summary of the whole paper. I hope that through the research of this paper, I can help readers learn more about American car culture, thus promoting the development of cross-cultural communication.
