中美之间宣传翻译的文化差异分析Analysis of Cultural Differences in Publicity Translation between China and America

Abstract

Translation is not only a kind of linguistic activity but also a kind of cultural interaction, and thus cultural differences exert great influences on translation. In publicity translation, we may feel it much easier to translate when there are more similarities in the source language and the target language in terms of the choice of words, collocations and social meaning. That is the positive aspect of cultural components in translation. However, there are much more cultural differences than similarities in the two languages belonging to different language families. The major differences may lie not only in vocabulary, grammatical structure, and rhetoric devices, but also in cultural background. Thus the negative effect on translation occurs when cultural differences are neglected or misunderstood. Additionally, with the globalization of the world, the economy, high-speed collision of culture are being merged, American culture pour into China in a large amount, how to proceed from publicity translation has become the topic that people are thinking and probing into constantly in this day and age.

On the basis of the American and Chinese culture, this paper has a view on the publicity translation differences and also analysis of the differences, the reasons and some approaches to help translation learners to enhance their culture awareness and cultural competence. In conclusion, translators or translation learners should make great efforts in cultivating their culture awareness, which is something very important in translation teaching and learning.
