用关联理论分析《红楼梦》的隐喻翻译：以回目翻译为例

STORY OF THE STONE UNDER THE GUIDANCE OF RELEVANCE THEORY: TAKE THE TRANSLATION OF TITLE NAME AS EXAMPLE
Abstract: Under the perspective of relevance theory, the thesis analyzes the metaphor translation of The Story of the Stone in English version, mainly David Hawkes’ edition. To make it clear and easy to understand, this article will take the translation of title name as example. Through the strategies of metaphorical translation, it points out that whether we choose literal translation or paraphrase, we all need to follow the guidance of relevance theory. Only by relevance theory can we equalize the metaphors of original text and translated text. Thus, the aim is to make the readers of original text and the readers of translated text have the same feeling and understanding about metaphors. For its strong explanation and guidance of metaphors’ translation, relevance theory should be applied into the translation of The Story of the Stone further, especially the translation of metaphors.

用关联理论分析《红楼梦》的隐喻翻译：以回目翻译为例

摘要：在关联理论视角下，分析《红楼梦》英译本中的隐喻翻译，主要以霍克斯的英译本为参考对象。为了使分析更加清晰和容易理解，本文将以小说中的回目翻译为例。通过其中对隐喻翻译所采取的翻译策略，指出不论是直译还是意译，我们都必须遵循关联理论。只有通过关联理论我们才可以把原文的隐喻和译文的隐喻等同起来，这样就能使原文读者和译文读者对隐喻做出同样的反应和认识。由于其对隐喻翻译强大的解释力和指导意义，关联理论应当被进一步地运用到《红楼梦》的翻译当中，尤其是其中的隐喻翻译。
