城市公示语翻译中的错误探析

Abstract
With the rapid development of our economy and intensification of our reform and opening-up policy, China has established good relationships with other countries. The propaganda materials are being translated into different languages. Many cities are speeding up their pace in connecting with the world. Public signs, which are an important part of communication and play an important role in our daily life, have been attracting considerable attention. The public signs are becoming more and more important not only in directing people, but also in upgrading the international image and reputation of China in the global community. However, there are many problems in the translation of public signs which will not only cause social disorder, but also degrade China’s international status and image.
Nowadays China’s public signs are mostly translated in Chinese and English. The C-E translation of public signs is not furnishing; it can help those foreigners in China and it is a kind of business card of cities. For this reason, the paper aims to analyze the problems existing in the C-E translation of public signs and to seek proper translation strategies. The author will explain the definition, characters and translation strategies of public signs by examples.

摘要
随着我国经济的发展和对外开放步伐的加快，中国与国际间的友好往来及经济合作日益增多，对外联系日益频繁。对外宣传材料不断译为各国语言。各大城市也加快与世界接轨的步伐，公示语逐渐采用中英双语来表示。公示语属于对外宣传的一个重要部分，公示语的翻译具有重要的意义。城市公示语不仅对人们起到告示指导作用，更起到提高我国国际形象的作用。但是，如今我国城市公示翻译所出现的错误屡见不鲜。这不仅会造成社会秩序的紊乱，而且会影响中国的国际地位和形象。
在全球化的今天，中国城市公示语大多采用了中英两种语言，但其英文翻译质量却令人担忧。公示语的英汉翻译不是一种摆设，他们不仅为在中国的外国人提供方便与帮助，也是展示在外国人面前的一张张城市名片。本文将从理论和实践的角度分析当今城市公示语翻译中所存在的一些问题。以例证的方式对城市公示语的定义、特点、分类以及翻译策略等方面进行说明。
