《送菜升降机》中的存在主义


哈尔罗德•品特是荒诞派戏剧的重要代表人物,尤其在现代戏剧中影响深远。在其作品《送菜升降机》中,他不仅表达了荒诞派的思想,同时也阐释了自己对于存在主义的独特理解。本文从三个方面来研究这一特点,即从人物,场景和语言三个方面,从而说明品特不同于传统存在主义在于他的作品添加了更多的个人见解和荒诞派的思潮。同时,不同于哲学运用的理论阐释存在主义,品特却用剧本来表达他理解得存在主义。本文对于品特的读者及存在主义的研究者进一步加深对荒诞派戏剧,存在主义及二者的综合研究有所帮助。

ABSTRACT

The Theatre of the Absurd has been an important school of drama, and it is especially influential in modern dramas. It is believed that Harold Pinter as a representative of this school has demonstrated not only absurdity but also his unique existential thoughts in his work The Dumb Waiter. This paper tested these beliefs by introducing an analysis from three main aspects: the characters, the setting and the language. It is proved that Pinter’s existentialism thinking differs itself from the traditional existentialism in that the personal understanding and the cream of absurdist thoughts are added. In addition, Pinter uses his most powerful tool—his play, to express those thoughts rather than resorting to the theoretical approach of philosophy.  This study has a promising implication for readers of Pinter and enthusiasts of existentialism as well, to profound their understanding of absurd theatre, existentialism and the interaction of both.
