英语专业学生学习动机研究及启示


英语在国际社会的重要性越来越引起人们的重视,英语专业学生的就业问题也引起了学者们对学生学习动机的重视。动机被认为是影响学习者语言学习的关键因素,许多学者对学生的动机进行了大量的研究。但是,对非英语专业学生学习动机的研究较多,因此对英语专业大学生的英语学习动机研究很有必要。
本文共包括六个部分。第一部分介绍了研究的背景及意义。第二部分介绍了一些学者对动机的研究,包括其定义,相关理论,分类及影响因素等。第三部分阐述了研究对象,方法及过程等。本研究以调查问卷的方式对河北科技大学英语专业50名大学生进行调查,并且从中随机抽取几名同学进行了非正式的访谈以避免问卷当中没有涉及到的问题。第四部分主要是对收集到的数据的处理和分析。研究结果表明:主要学习动机是内在动机和工具性动机,并且发现内外动机相结合较易保持学生的学习动机。对于英语专业学生的学习而言,内在兴趣是非常重要的,很多学生还注重在英语上的发展。英语专业学生的工具型动机除了通过考试和考取证书以外,更多的是注重文化交流和从事自己喜爱的工作。第五部分则是根据上述分析结果提出了一些激发学生学习英语动机的建议,比如教师改变教学方法;政府,企业采取相应的政策;学生根据自身选择相应的学习方式等。第六部分总结了文章的研究结果。
总之,动机对于学习有着不可忽视的作用,只有了解学生的学习需求才能找到相应的激发学习动机的方法,从而提高学习效果。

Abstract

The importance of English in the international society has attracted people’s attention. English major students’ employment questions also have caused the scholars’ attentions on students’ learning motivation. Many scholars have studied motivations, because it is regarded as an important factor of learning language. But the researches of non-English majors’ motivation are relatively more. Hence, it’s necessary to investigate the motivation of English majors.  
This dissertation includes six parts. The first part briefly introduces the background and significance of this thesis. The second part introduces some scholars’ researches of motivation, including its definitions, some related theories, influencing factors and types. The third part is about the subjects, methods and procedure. I investigated 50 English majors of HeBei University of science and technology. From them I picked up a few to informal interview, avoiding lacking of some motivations in questionnaires. The forth part deals with the data. The results show that: the intrinsic and instrumental motivations are the main types, and combination of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation can help keeping students’ motivation. Interest is important to English majors. Many students also pay attention to the self-development in English. The instrumental motivation is not only passing exam or getting certificates, they are more incline to inter-cultural communication and engaged in their favorite work. The fifth part puts forward some suggestions of how to inspire motivation. Such as teachers change teaching methods, government and enterprises take corresponding actions, students choose relative learning styles, etc.. The sixth part concludes the investigation results.
Briefly, motivation plays significant role in learning. We should find students’ demands and inspire their motivation accordingly to improve learning effect.
