英语谚语翻译中的归化与异化

  谚语是一个民族生产、生活智慧的沉淀与结晶，是一个民族语言与文化的精华，具有短小精悍、言简意赅，语句结构紧凑、生动形象，内涵丰富、广博深邃，几乎反映社会的方方面面的特点。培根说:“一个民族的天才、机智和精神都可以在它的谚语中找到”。由此可见，谚语蕴含着深刻的哲理，闪烁着智慧的光芒，具有浓厚的民族色彩，在推介民族语言与文化方面起着非常重要的作用。因此，谚语的理解与翻译显得尤为重要。翻译中到底应采用归化还是异化一直是国内外翻译界争论的焦点。尽管很多学者从不同的角度提出了很多观点，但迄今仍没有一个可以广泛接受的标准。 本文对异化和归化这两种翻译策略在英语谚语翻译中的运用进行了进一步研究，分析了各自的优缺点，发现在英语谚语翻译中采用异化翻译，既能忠实原文，又能促进不同文化间的交流并起到丰富目的语语言与文化的作用。

Domestication and Foreignization in English Proverb    Translation
Abstract
    Proverbs are the substance and crystallization of a nation’s language and culture. They have concise forms, rich meanings, vivid images and full of rhetorical device. With abundant and deep connotations, proverbs reflect almost every aspect of a society. As Francis Bacon once remarked that “The genies, wit and spirit of a nation are discovered in its proverbs”. It is obliviously to see that proverbs shine with accumulated wisdom, carry strong national characteristics and play a significant role in introducing a nation’s culture. Therefore, the understanding and translation of English proverbs become increasingly important. Whether to use domestication or foreignization has become the focus in the field of translation at home and abroad. Although many scholars have put forward a lot of points from different angles, still no standard can be widely accepted. This thesis attempts to make a further study of foreignization and domestication in English proverb translation, analyzing their advantages and disadvantages. Founding that in the translation of English proverbs, foreignization is not only faithful to the original text, but also promoting the communication between different cultures, and further more, enriching the target language and culture.
