《曼斯菲尔德庄园》中范妮性格分析

    英国女作家简•奥斯丁的小说《曼斯菲尔德庄园》一直饱受争议，众多奥斯丁批评家认为这部小说是作者的一次失败的转型实验。争议的焦点是其女主人公范妮•普莱斯，许多评论家认为范妮这一人物形象索然无味，没有个性，更不能理解奥斯丁为什么会选择范妮作为女主人公。但实际上，范妮•普莱斯是奥斯丁在《曼斯菲尔德庄园》中塑造的一个内涵深刻的人物形象。欣赏范妮不仅是对该作品的进一步理解，也是对当时社会所存在的道德问题的一种思考。本文试图分析范妮这一人物性格的优缺点，并从人物身世、成长环境、爱情观以及小说创作的背景各方面来分析说明范妮的性格成因，以期能更好地理解范妮以及这部小说，并为现代女性性格上的完善提出指导性建议。

Abstract

    The analysis of Fanny Price’s image is helpful in understanding Mansfield Park, written by Jane Austen. Readers find it hard to understand or appreciate the heroine  Fanny Price and the virtues reflected from her. Since they think her virtues and beauty are out of date and the character Fanny is very boring. However, the paper holds that Fanny is a great success created by Jane Austen. The appreciation of Fanny is not only a further understanding of this novel, but also a thinking of the moral issues existing in Jane Austen’s time. This essay is an attempt to analyze the image of Fanny Price including her advantages and disadvantages. The causes of her image will be analyzed from such aspects as her life story, growing environment and her view of love, hoping by this way, Fanny Price, the character created by Jane Austen could be truly appreciated and approved.
