《老人与海》中海明威的写作风格与手法

Hemingway’s Writing Style and Techniques in                                                 The Old Man and the Sea

Abstract

     Earnest Hemingway is a world-famous American novelist and short story writer. His name is associated with war and courage, with love and violence, with beauty and death. In his life time, he publishes a lot of short stories and novels. In his works, The Old Man and the Sea is one of the greatest novel which uses his unique writing style and techniques, such as Iceberg Theory, symbolism, omission etc. Because of The Old Man and the Sea, Hemingway wins the highest price, The Nobel Price of Literature. On the surface, the language is simple and natural, but actually it is deliberate and artificial. The dialogue in this work combines with the realistic and the artificial. The simplicity is highly suggestive, and often reflects the strong undercurrent of emotion. In addition, Hemingway’s writing style is influenced by his experience as a journalist. He learns from many famous writers, and most importantly, he tries his best to look for a style of his own.
