Abstract

Daisy Miller is the masterpiece of Henry James’. The protagonist, Daisy Miller is a woman with a love tragedy，and a controversial character among many of the literature characters. The article mainly analyses Daisy Miller’s cause of death .This article is divided into five parts. First, it gives a brief introduction of the author and the novel. Second, it describes the social background of the novel. Third, it analyzes the cause of Daisy Miller’s death from the aspects of cultural conflict，hierarchy and gender discrimination , which are the emphasis of the article. Forth, it presents the international theme in the novel，which means the conflict and collision between innocent Americans and sophisticated Europeans . Fifth, it gives a conclusion of the entire article.
