    论文分为三部分。第一章对小说及什克洛夫斯基提出的陌生化概念进行了简单的介绍。第二章应用陌生化理论从该小说的语言、情节、叙事结构、象征性意义及新鲜视角详细分析了马克•吐温作品的幽默所在。最后一章总结了《卡拉维拉县的著名跳蛙》中的陌生化。

Defamiliarization in The Celebrated Jumping
Frog of Calaveras County
Abstract: Mark Twain’s The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County is a shining pearl among the world’s most humorous literature treasure. It vividly describes the cultural identity in the western area of the United States, which was under developing in those days, fully embodies Mark Twain’s humorous creating style. Defamiliarization is successfully used in the novel and plays an important role in the novel to help readers understand the concept of the theme.
    In this novel, defamiliarization is reflected extraordinarily by Mark Twain. It makes the novel full of humorous sense. Defamiliarization is almost applied everywhere, which plays an important role in helping readers understand the theme of the novel. From all of the applications, social realities and the theme are shown clearly. In this paper, Victor Shklovsky’s theory of defamiliarization is applied from the aspect of language, plots, narrative structure, symbolic significance and fresh perspective to analyze Mark Twain’s humorous effects in The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County.
The thesis is made up of three parts. The first chapter gives a brief introduction to The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County and Victor Shklovsky’s theory of Defamiliarization.  The second chapter gives an elaborate analysis of Mark Twain’s humorous effects in The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County from the angle of language, plots, narrative structure，symbolic significance and fresh perspective. Finally, a conclusion is given to summarize defamiliarization in this novel.
