简析简•奥斯汀作品《傲慢与偏见》中的爱情观和婚姻观

Love and Marriage in Jane Austen’s
Pride and Prejudice
 
Abstract: Pride and Prejudice is one of the most famous works of Jane Austen. It tells love stories and marriages between middle class and upper class in Britain in late 18th century and early 19th century. This thesis analyzes four marriages and through those marriages, we will comprehend Jane Austen’s views of marriage and love which are totally different from other people’s views at that time. They are the marriage of Charlotte and Mr. Collins which is based entirely on property and financial security and is representative marriage at that time; the marriage of Lydia Bennet and Mr. Wickham which is ridiculous and, won’t have a happy ending; a perfect match between Jane and Mr. Bingley and the marriage of Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy which is based on true love and understanding. We can see from the analysis that, in Jane Austen’s opinion, true love is the core in a relationship and she believes in no love, no happiness.
