论英汉委婉语文化意蕴的差异

摘要：委婉语,作为一种语言现象,普遍存在于人类语言之中。同时,它也是一种文化现象，折射出中西国家的不同风俗习惯和社会心理。作为交际中人们协调人际关系的一种有效手段，委婉语起着其他语言手段所无法替代的作用。英汉两种语言都有大量的委婉语,它们看似相同,却体现了各自不同的文化底蕴。
本论文通过英汉委婉语具体实例，对比中西方两种语言中有关宗教、年龄、贫穷、职业、传统观念等不同领域的委婉语,阐述了虽然委婉语是不同语言的普遍现象,但中西方不同的宗教信仰、文化传统、价值观念等方面存在明显差异，揭示了中西方委婉语的使用及文化内涵也不尽相同。本文分析了随着社会的发展，英汉委婉语也出现了通用现象。随着当今世界跨文化交流的日益频繁，进一步研究英汉委婉语文化意蕴的差异，对促进两个民族间的成功交流有着积极的意义；理解英汉委婉语文化意蕴的差异，对跨文化交际有着重要的作用。

Differences in English and Chinese Euphemisms on Cultural Implications

Abstract: As a common linguistic phenomenon, euphemism exists in almost every language. At the same time, it is a cultural phenomenon, which reflects different convention, custom and social psychology in China and the western countries. There are a great number of euphemisms in both English and Chinese, which have originated from different cultures.
This paper aims to make a contrastive study of euphemisms about religion, age, poverty and occupation through the specific examples of English and Chinese euphemisms and points out that cultural connotation of euphemistic expressions vary greatly since there are differences in religious beliefs, social values and traditional cultures in the Western countries and China. In addition, the paper analyzes that, with the development of the society, there are phenomena of universal use between English and Chinese euphemism. With the increasing inter-cultural communication, a further study on the differences in English and Chinese euphemism on cultural implications has a positive meaning for the exchange of the two nations; understanding the differences of English and Chinese euphemism on cultural implications is of great importance in the inter-cultural communication.
