Abstract:Rita Hayworth and Shawshank’redemption is a soulful novel about the theme of redemption.The hero-Andy was a young and smart banker and was sent to prison because he was mistakenly judged to be the murder of his wife.In the novel,the hero used knowledge and hope as intangible weapons for the redemption of freedom. The story teaches us not to despair and not to be swamped by sorrow when in traps,and it reminds us that knowledge is precious, and hope can give our lives substances and meaning.
Many readers and movie reviewers were moved and shocked by the work and they have written a lot of theses. Based on previous research, this paper will further analyze the theme of redemption as an entry point to show western religious culture. Besides, the paper will cite examples to indicate how knowledge and hope bring power to the hero and further discuss their meaning in our real life.
