Noam Chomsky and his transformational-generative grammarAbstract: Chomsky’s introduction of transformational-generative grammar theory at the end of the 1950s launched a “Chomsky’s revolution” in the language of scholars. Transformational-generative grammar creatively put forward the concept of “language acquisition device” hypothesis and tried to use transformational rules to explain the phenomenon of language which a number of other theories can not explain. This article describes the emergence and development of Chomsky’s transformational-generative grammar and analyses its meaning.
