文化差异下的政府外宣英译

 


中国是拥有着5000年文化历史的国度。随着北京奥运会和上海世博会的成功举办,来自世界越来越多的目光开始投向中国。为了吸引更多西方人士了解中国,树立良好的中国形象,需要充分发挥政府的外宣材料的作用。众所周知中国与西方世界的交流通过翻译手段来互通信息,因此,翻译扮演着举足轻重的角色身份。然而由于中国的文化源远流长,与西方文化存在诸多差异,如原则、信仰、处事风格等等,因而在翻译过程中遭遇来自信仰、宗教等文化差异方面的阻碍。为了成功解决此类障碍,本文从文化角度着眼,提出解释、省略与代替、提炼大意三种解决方案,冀求给未来的外宣英译带来启示。

C-E Translation of Governmental Publicity under Cultural Differences

 

China enjoys a history of more than 5000 years with a splendid civilization.  Growing attention from the world has been paid to China since the success of the Olympic Games and Expo. The governmental publicity should be brought into a full play to establish a good image so that more and more Western people will understand China. The role of C-E translation matters since China communicates to the Western countries via Chinese and English languages. However, due to the long history of China, Chinese culture differs from the Western one in many areas including: principles, beliefs and the styles when handling matters and so on. All these cultural differences lead to the confrontation of the obstacles deriving from different beliefs, religions and others. In order to solve these problems successfully, this paper focuses on culture and puts forward three solutions: explanation, omission and replacement, extraction, hoping to help the further research in governmental publicity.
