浅析中英数字的文化内涵及翻译策略
摘  要

数字是语言的一个重要组成部分，它不单单表示数学概念，在很多情况下，它是一种文化符号，折射了一个民族多层面的文化特性。汉语和英语分别源于不同的东、西方文化体系，其数字文化在内容和表现方式上各有特色。本文首先通过对英汉某些具有代表性的数字进行对比与分析，揭示出这两种数字文化存在着某些共性和异性。通过大量古往今来的例子，我们可以发现数字由于受其赖以形成和发展的文化环境的影响和制约，被赋予了丰富的文化内涵。为此，我们必须追寻数字文化内涵的根源，知道人们是怎么认识世界和自身的,了解这些根源，有助于我们更好地掌握数字文化内涵的深层意义。最后，本文提出了一些有关中英文数字的翻译策略，探索数字翻译的原则以达到更好的翻译效果，从而进一步提高跨文化交际的能力。

On Cultural Connotations of Chinese and English Numbers and Their translation Strategies

ABSTRACT

Numbers, or numerals, are an organic part of language. They are not used for mathematical value only. Instead in most cases they are cultural signs, which reflect cultural properties of a nation in various fields including its politics, economy, history, philosophy, religion, world outlook and so on. This thesis reveals some similarities and differences of these two numerical cultures by comparing and analyzing the cultural connotations of some typical numbers in English and Chinese. With large numbers of examples illustrated from the ancient ages to the modern times, we can find out that numbers have been given plentiful cultural connotations owed to the effect and restriction of their cultural conditions. Number connotations are deep-rooted in traditional cultures, thus, sources of these connotations should be traced back to the question how people perceived the world and themselves; these sources can help us grasp these connotations more thoroughly. At last, this thesis offers some strategies related to the translations about numeral expressions between English and Chinese, so as to look for numeral translation principles and methods to achieve better results, which may contribute to the foreign language learning and intercultural communication.
