摘  要

简•奥斯汀是英国文学史上一位伟大的作家。论文分析的是她最著名的一部小说《傲慢于偏见》中经济对婚姻的影响。首先介绍了奥斯汀其人以及她最著名的一部小说《傲慢与偏见》。然后，通过描述奥斯汀所生活时代的继承观和婚姻观，了解到由于实行长子继承制，女性无权继承父亲的财产。要使日后生活得到保障，女性必须选择有财产的男士作为终身伴侣。因此，经济对婚姻的影响主要表现为：在当时的社会，是否拥有财产成了人们选择配偶时唯一需要考虑的因素，婚姻也成了增加财产的一种方式和金钱与利益的结合。最后，通过分析得出奥斯汀提出的婚姻观：完全建立在经济基础之上的世俗的婚姻是不道德的，而美满的婚姻应该建立在爱情的基础之上，并有一定的物质作为保障。

The Influence of Economy on Marriage in 
Pride and Prejudice
 

ABSTRACT

Jane Austen ranks as an outstanding writer in the history of British literature. This thesis tries to analyze the influence of economy on marriage in her masterpiece Pride and prejudice. First, this thesis is going to present an introduction to Austen and her masterpiece Pride and Prejudice. Then, through the description of the rights of inheritance and attitude to marriage, it discloses that female could not inherit the property after their fathers’ death because of the system of primogeniture in Austen’s age. They had to choose a man who had property as her husband, in order to get the living guarantee. So, the influence of economy on marriage is: property turns into the only fundamental basis of a marriage. Marriage turns into a means of increasing property and a combination of money and benefit in that society. Finally, through the analysis of this novel, Austen’s outlook on marriage is showed: the secular marriage based merely on economic foundation is immoral and a perfect one should be based on mutual love and economic foundation as well.
