言语交际下的英语语调意义及功能探微
Meanings and Functions of English Intonation in Communication
 
Language is an important means of communication and intonation is important to express thoughts and feelings. Pronunciation is the language body, and the intonation is the soul. However, the intonation has been one of the most neglected areas in English language teaching and studying. This paper provides some basic and authentic information about intonation and is loosely based on the Halliday's theory of the intonation. It shows the meanings and functions of English intonation and tries to lead to a better understanding of English sentence structures and the tone of the speaker. In addition, it tries to help us to get more accurate information to make less misundstandings in cross-cultural communication. It also tries to cause the general English learner’s interest and attention of the intonation research.

语言是人类交际的重要手段,语调则是口语表达思想感情的重要手段.尽管语言声音的发音是语言的躯体，但语调才是语言的灵魂。尽管语调如此重要，但在实际的英语学习和教学中，人们并未对语调给予特别的关注。本文试图从韩礼德的有关语调理论开始,译述有关语调研究的一些基本信息,并通过对语调的特点及其功能的研究帮助我们更好了解英语句子结构以及说话者的语气等,从而更准确的获得交流信息,减少跨文化交际在语音语调层面上的失误.也借此研究引起广大英语学习者对语调研究的兴趣和重视.
