论文研究了托妮•莫里森的第六部小说《爵士乐》，从三个角度分析了男主人公美国黑人乔•特雷斯的悲剧命运,包括其情感经历、性格变化以及美国社会状况。乔
•特雷斯不同寻常的身世和特殊的成长环境使其性格发生扭曲，并影响了乔与其他女人的关系，最终导致情感悲剧的产生，而种族主义者的行为是造成其悲剧的根本原因。论文通过对乔的悲剧命运的系统分析，揭露了美国黑人社会地位的低下、艰难的生活环境以及种族主义者的行为，即种族歧视、种族压迫对黑人造成的深深的伤害，并指出男主人公乔•特雷斯悲剧命运的不可避免性。

An Analysis of Joe Trace’s Tragic Fate in Jazz
 
ABSTRACT

This paper analyzes the male protagonist Joe Trace’s tragic fate in Toni Morrison’s sixth novel Jazz from three aspects, including his love experiences, the change of his character and American social status quo. Unusual parentage of Joe and the special environment in which he grows make his character distorted, and lead to his love tragedy finally, but racist practice is the root cause of his tragedy. The paper makes a systematical analysis of Joe’s tragic fate, profoundly showing black people’s low social status, difficult living environment and the deep hurt caused by racist practices including racial discrimination and oppression on black people. It also indicates the inevitability of Joe’s tragic fate in American society.
