论文对查尔斯•狄更斯《大卫•科波菲尔》的主人公大卫•科波菲尔的性格进行了分析。首先指出大卫•科波菲尔性格中的优点：善良、诚实、勤奋、勇敢，并指出其性格缺陷：做事糊涂、不谙世故、极度虚荣。继而探讨其性格形成的诸多因素，侧重于分析小说作者自身坎坷的成长经历，以及其他小说人物对主人公性格的影响。论文最后从事业、婚姻及友情三个方面分析了大卫•科波菲尔的性格对其人生的影响。性格决定命运,小说以主人公事业成功、爱情幸福圆满结局。

 Study of David Copperfield’s Personality

ABSTRACT

The thesis discusses the personality of David Copperfield, the hero of David Copperfield written by Charles Dickens. The thesis first points out the merits and shortcomings of David Copperfield’s personality. He is kind, honest, diligent and brave despite his stupidity, innocence and vainglory. It then investigates the factors underlying the formation of his personality, focusing on Charles Dickens’ growth experience full of frustrations, and on the influence of the other characters’ influence on Copperfield’s personality. Finally, the thesis analyzes the influence of David Copperfield’s personality on his life from the aspects of his career, his marriage and his friends around him. Personality determines one’s fate, and the story has a happy ending with the hero’s successful career and happy love.
