英汉省略对比与翻译
摘  要

省略是一个很普遍的语用现象。所谓省略,是指在话语或语篇中省去一个或一个以上的句子成分,而又不影响其被理解的现象。从省略形成的原因来看,是语言的经济原则使然。从其功能来看,是避免重复和连接上下文的一种话语篇章手段。
文章对英汉语中的省略现象进行对比,同时探讨了省略在英汉互译中的处理方法。首先探讨了省略的概念、产生原因与功能,区分了省略与替代,然后从英汉语中的各种省略现象出发,探讨了省略现象在英汉语中的共性与差异性。文章指出英汉省略在现象和功能上具有很大的相似性，而在实际运用中差异较大。最后，针对英语和汉语中省略现象使用的具体情况，分别从主语省略、谓语省略、宾语省略以及其他成分省略等探讨了省略在英汉互译中的处理方法。

A Contrastive Study of Ellipsis in English and
Chinese and Its Translation

                                 
ABSTRACT
Ellipsis is a common pragmatic phenomenon, which refers to the leaving out of a word or words from a sentence when the meaning can be understood without it or them in a special sense without saying. What accounts for it is the principle of economy. As regards its functions, ellipsis is a grammatical means that helps to avoid repetition and connect the context.
The paper is a contrastive study of ellipsis in English and Chinese, pointing at the rendering of it in E/C translation. This paper first discusses the definition, the causes and the functions of ellipsis, with an effort to distinguish ellipsis and substitution. Then it proceeds to explore the similarities and differences between English and Chinese ellipsis. It is illustrated that while there are great similarities concerning its functions, there are also big differences in its application. At last, it explores the translation of various forms of ellipsis, such as the subject ellipsis, the predicate ellipsis, the object ellipsis and other elements ellipsis, etc.
