英语课堂离不开言语交际,在英语课堂教学中运用礼貌原则,可以激发学生的学习主动性或营造和谐融洽的课堂气氛,可以达到提高教学质量的目的。文章以理论为基础,探索礼貌原则在英语课堂教学中的应用。通过问卷调查,主要从三个方面收集和整理有关数据,一是教师及学生对礼貌原则在英语课堂教学中应用的意识,二是学生对教师在英语课堂中对礼貌原则应用,三是学生对教师应用礼貌原则的反应以及礼貌原则对教与学的影响。以语言形式出现的礼貌策略,主要包括三类:积极礼貌策略,消极礼貌策略和非公开策略;以非语言形式出现的礼貌策略也包括三类:眼神交流,面部表情和沉默。最后提出在英语课堂中培养学生使用礼貌原则的能力的必要性和方法。文章的分析和讨论证明:使用礼貌原则对英语课堂教学效果具有重要的价值,它对创造良好的教学环境,以及建立融洽的师生关系起着其他教学策略无法替代的作用。

Application of Politeness Principle
in English Class
                      
ABSTRACT
There must be interaction in English classes. The application of Politeness Principle in English classroom teaching has a function to stimulate learners’ motivation or create an enjoyable and harmonious atmosphere in class, and achieve the purpose of improving teaching quality. Based on the theory of Politeness Principle, this paper explores the situation of the application of Politeness Principle in English classroom teaching. All the feedback are gained from the questionnaire surveys which falls into three categories: one is teacher and student’s awareness of the application of Politeness Principle in English class teaching, the second is the teacher’s implementation of Politeness Principle in English class, and the third is the feedback to the application of Politeness Principle from students and the effects of Politeness Principle on both teaching and learning. Then this paper discusses the strategies are used in verbal forms including three main categories: positive strategies, negative politeness strategies and off-record strategies. The strategies are usually used in non-verbal forms also including three categories: eye contact, facial expression and silence. At last this paper advocates the necessity and measures of cultivating students’ ability of using Politeness Principle in English classes. The analysis and discussion of the study prove that the application of Politeness Principle is very important in English class teaching. It is useful to create, maintain, and sustain the connections between teachers and learners. And no matter what types of politeness strategies are applied in English classrooms, the purpose is to create a pleasant and harmonious context for the learners, to initiate their self-esteem and enthusiasm for English study, and hence achieve more effective teaching.
