摘  要

《威尼斯商人》是莎士比亚著名喜剧之一，而剧中的夏洛克更是一个经典形象，被人们一次次的分析。以前，尤其是16世纪，许多人认为夏洛克贪婪、残忍、令人讨厌，而他的结局正是这部戏剧称为喜剧的一个原因。但是随着时间的发展，人们开始重新认识夏洛克。本文作者结合时代背景首先对夏洛克贪婪、自私、残酷、狡猾等人物特征进行了分析，然后又从传统意义的不同角度出发，分析了其令人同情的一面及作为一个普通父亲酷爱自己独女的一面。认为夏洛克虽然自私、残忍，但还具有坦诚、勇敢、富有民族精神的特征。此外，本文认为导致夏洛克多重性格的原因除了家庭、社会、经济的因素外，还有法律及宗教的原因。

Discussion of the Image of Shylock in The Merchant of Venice
 
 ABSTRACT

The Merchant of Venice is one of Shakespeare’s most famous comedies. While Shylock is a classical figure and analyzed again and again. Before, especially in16th century, Shylock was thought greedy, hateful, cruel and so on, and his final result is one of the reasons why this play is called a comedy. As times goes by, people begin to re-analyze Shylock. The author of this paper thinks that although Shylock is hateful, he has some other characters, such as being clever, frank, courageous as well as possessing a rich national spirit. The reasons that cause him to have diversified characters are many. There are religious and law factors as well as family, social and economic ones.
