新闻发布会口译的角度解释理论The Study of Press Conference Interpreting from the Perspective of Interpretative Theory
Abstract
The economic and cultural exchange between China and other countries has been more and more frequent since the “Reform and Opening-up” policy was implemented. Press conference, as a means of international communication, attracts great attention from the general public, especially the annual press conferences which are held during the sessions of the National People’s Congress (NPC) and the Chinese People’s Political and Consultative Conference (CPPCC). As a special aid of communication, the consecutive interpreter serves as an interlingual bridge connecting addressers and audience speaking different languages or from different cultures. Therefore, interpreting plays a crucial role in cross-culture communication.
This thesis first introduces the background and development of the interpretative theory of translation. Then, the author brings in the press conference interpretation which is considered as the main body of the study. After that, the author analyzes press conference interpreting from the perspective of interpretative theory with great efforts, combining several persuasive examples taken from press conference interpreting transcription of speeches by Premier Wen Jiabao and former Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing during the NPC and CPPCC sessions.
This thesis illustrates the necessity and significance of interpretative theory applied in press conference interpreting. On the guidance of the theory, first put forward by Danica Seleskovitch, one can work on practical interpreting and translating from a new aspect.
