功能对等视角下英语双关语的汉译

ABSTRACT

As a figure of speech, puns are frequently created and used in       literary works, in verbal communication as well as in our daily life, embodying functions of strengthening linguistic expression and coloring linguistic effects. The utilization of puns makes languages a lot more                    humorous, interesting and vivid. Because of the differences of languages and cultures, it is a great challenge to translate puns from English into Chinese. As a matter of fact, however, on account of identity of cognitive reference and the principle of isomorph in different languages, identity of thinking mode, similarities in languages and the mutual infiltration of culture, translatability exists in all languages, making it possible for pun translation.
This thesis studies how to achieve optimal equivalence in pun translation under the theoretical basis of functional equivalence. What is more, a brief account of Delabastita’s translation methods for puns is given. And then based on this, the thesis tentatively puts forward the commonly used methods that are supposed to be adopted in the translation of puns from English into Chinese through detailed analysis.

内  容  摘   要

双关语作为常见的修辞手段具有丰富语言表达、强化语言效果的功能，在日常生活、语言交际、文学作品中被广泛运用。双关语的运用可以使语言幽默、富有情趣、耐人寻味。由于语言和文化之间的差异，英语双关语译为汉语时具有很大的挑战性。然而，由于认识所指的同一性及语意系统的“同构”原理、思维形式的同一性、语法差异的规律性及语意系统的对应和文化的相互渗透性，双关语的翻译是可能的。
本文以奈达的功能对等为理论指导，研究如何在功能对等的指导下，取得双关语翻译的最佳对等。另外，文章简要介绍了比利时学者Delabastita提出双关语的翻译方法，并在研究英语双关语翻译实例的基础上提出了适合英语双关语的翻译方法。
