中英文数字的文化内涵与翻译策略

Abstract
Numerals and people’s life are closely linked. As we all know, numeral is the basic concept of mathematics and mathematics is a sharp weapon for human beings to understand the nature and change the nature. It is obvious that numerals play an indispensable role in people’s life. Apart from its function in science and mathematics, numerals are also a kind of special language. Because numerals are relevant to social customs, religious beliefs, national psychology, etc., they embodied special associative meanings and mysterious cultural connotations. Numerical culture has received more attention during intercultural communication these years.
The paper is made to discuss the cultural connotations of English and Chinese numerals according to the numerical culture theories made by some famous scholars and some previous researches on numerals. And under three principles of numerical translation, that is, principle of adaptation to the target language, principle of achieving idiomaticity and principle of achieving vividness, to discuss three translation strategies of English and Chinese numerals, including preservation of original numerals, replacement of numerals and accession or omission of numerals. Hence, better comprehension, communication and study can be achieved.

摘要

数字与人们的生活息息相关。众所周知，数字是数学的基本概念，而数学是人类认识和改变自然的锐利武器。很明显数字在人们的生活中发挥了不可或缺的作用。除了及其在科学和数学的作用，数字也是一种特殊的语言。因为与数字有关的社会习俗、 宗教信仰、 民族心理等，他们体现了特殊的联想意义和神秘的文化内涵。这几年数字文化在跨文化交际的过程中得到更多的关注。
本论文将根据数字文化理论与翻译理论，研究英汉不同数字的文化内涵；并根据三项翻译原则，即民族性，通俗性和形象性原则，加以讨论总结三项英汉数字的翻译策略，包括保留数字直译法，变动数字改译法和增舍数字法。这些策略将使数字文化领域的研究取得更好的理解、 沟通和学习。
