英汉数字模糊语义的翻译原则和方法

Abstract

This thesis intends to explore the translation principles and methods of English and Chinese numerals with semantic fuzziness in the light of the theory of fuzziness. The thesis is divided into 6 parts. It begins with a brief introduction of the status quo and significance of this research. Then it conducts a general survey of the theory of fuzziness and the semantic fuzziness of language. The chapter 3, chapter 4, and chapter 5 are the main focuses of this research. In chapter 3, the paper explores the semantic fuzziness of English and Chinese numerals and ways of manifestation by introducing the English and Chinese numerals with semantic fuzziness respectively. In chapter 4, the paper introduces three translation principles of English and Chinese numerals with semantic fuzziness based on the previous researchers’ achievements: the nationality-oriented principle, the vividness-oriented principle and the popularity-oriented principle. Two translation methods are put forward in chapter 5: literal translation and free translation. Under free translation, four translation skills are incorporated: addition, reduction, omission and adaptation. Chapter 6 is the conclusion of the whole thesis. The translation principles and methods that have been introduced in this thesis aim at making the translation of numerals with semantic fuzziness more systematic and better accepted, achieving the expressive equivalence, correctness of meaning, and fitness of style as close to the original text as possible.

摘要

本论文依据模糊理论，对英汉数字模糊语义的翻译原则与方法进行研究。本论文可分为六章。第一章介绍了该研究的因由，研究现状，研究目的和意义。第二章概述了模糊理论和语言的模糊语义。第三、第四和第五章为本论文的研究重点。第三章探讨了中英数字的语义模糊性，及其各自的语义模糊性的表现形式。第四章是在前人研究成果的基础上，结合本论文的研究需要，提出英汉数字模糊语义的三种翻译原则：民族性原则；形象性原则和通俗性原则。第五章提出了相应的翻译方法：直译和意译。在意译的翻译方法下又提出了四种翻译技巧：增译，减译，省译和转译。第六章为该论文的总结。通过探讨英汉数字模糊语义的翻译原则和方法，本论文期望英汉数字的翻译会更系统性，使英汉数字模糊语义的互译表达更为地道，意义更为清晰，翻译更贴近原语文化。
