论英语名词化的功能

Abstract
In modern English, nominalization is not a new phenomenon. It is widely used in daily expressions. Nominalization is regarded as one of the main features of written English and official English. And it is widely used in the technological articles and government documents. Nominalization can make the language concise and precise, and texts reasonable and objective. Yet, too many nominalizations may make the language abstract and tedious and hard to understand. In this thesis, nominalization refers to the phenomenon in which any element or group of elements function as noun or noun group. To understand nominalization better, the functions of it are discussed from three aspects: the cognitive function, the metaphorical function and the metafunctions, among which the metafunctions are mainly talked about.

摘  要
在现代英语中，英语名词化并非新现象。在现代生活中英语名词化的表达方式被广泛运用。名词化被认为是英语书面语和正式语体的重要特征，并被大量使用在科技、人文和政府部门的语篇中。英语名词化的使用可以帮助语言简洁、严密，使语篇合理、客观。但过多的使用名词化会造成句子抽象乏味而带来负面效果。本文得出名词化是一种任何元素都可以转化作用为名词或名词词组的现象。然后从三个方面分别论述了英语名词化的功能：认知功能、隐喻功能和元功能。并重点讨论了名词化的元功能。
