《野性的呼唤》中巴克所做选择的深意

ABSTRACT

Each one has his own path of living. But all the people have one thing in common: making choices, which nobody can avoid doing. A cross-road will appear in one’s life anytime. Therefore, people need to judge what he is facing with and make the final choice time and time again. A string of choices marks the path of one’s life, makes sure life can keep rolling forward and every choice is a promise to one’s life, a time of pursuit to a perfect life. No choice can be made casually. It always should be the coefficient result of environment, values, self-control, etc. In The Call of the Wild, the author Jack London shows us the choices that the protagonist Buck makes according to the change of destiny. In the cruel new environment, Buck faces with difficult choices and he would die if he can not choose correctly. But the end is that Buck becomes the head of a pack of wolves. How amazing! This thesis will focus on summarizing the choices that Buck makes under different background and summarize them into two categories——rebellion and submission. This paper will analyze the background and process of making a certain decision to reflect the significance of making choices in one’s life.

摘  要

世界上有多少人，那便有多少条生命历程。但大家的人生中共有一个东西，那便是选择。选择是每个人都无法逃避的事情，十字路口则是生命旅程中的常客，因此，便有了一次次的掂量、一次次的选择。也正是在这一连串的选择中，一个人的生活轨迹得以确定，生命得以延续。其实每一次的选择都是对生命的一次郑重承诺，对完美人生的进一步追求。没有一个选择是随随便便做出的，选择是受到多重因素影响的，比如说环境、价值观、自控力，等等。在杰克•伦敦的杰作《野性的呼唤》中, 伦敦向我们展示了主人公巴克因命运的巨大改变所做出的一系列选择。在新的环境下，巴克面临的选择是困难的，一不小心，他便有可能被环境所淘汰，但我们看到的结果却是他成了一群狼的头领。而本文将着重分析促使主人公巴克为达到巅峰状态而在不同背景下所做的选择，并将其归纳为两大类----服从与反抗。文章通过解析巴克做出服从与反抗的背景、过程，透视出选择在生命历程中的深远意义。
