从苔丝的悲剧沉思构建和谐社会

Abstract
By analyzing and reseaching on gender in specific social and cultural institutions, including legal frameworks, and development of program that advance gender equality, this paper discusses the causes that destroyed Tess. It begins with a brief introduction to the novel and introduces the novel’s writer-Thomas Hardy. Moreover, it concentrates on Tess’s fight to the corrupt society, the representative of Men’s power, Alec and　Angel who destroyed Tess and the sex discrimination. And consequently the author points out that we should achieve　the　real　equality　of　men　and women,　no matter　in　social　status　or　financial　situations. In Tess’s times, women were defined as loyalty, conformity and no desires. They did not have equal professional or educational opportunities. Therefore, they were often outside the center of politics and the economy, and were regarded as being subordinate in the household. It was important for a woman to be a virgin before marriage in order to make sure that her chastity and loyalty to her husband. It regarded that men were the supremacy of the society; the male sex was the core of the society. We should foster values and institutional changes that reinforce equality between women and men, boys and girls through research and analysis on gender in specific social and cultural institutions, including legal frameworks, and development of program that advance gender equality. Nowadays, we should build a harmonious society which men and women live harmoniously and this is the effective way that we can avoid the tragedy like Tess’s.

中文摘要
论文论述了摧毁苔丝的成因。它开始是简短地介绍了小说的主要内容，及对小说的作者进行了介绍。它主要论述苔丝对腐败社会的抗争、摧毁苔丝的男权代表——Alec和Angel和性别歧视。最后得出结论：我们应该在社会地位及经济上实现真正的男女平等。在苔丝的时代，女人被定义为忠诚、守妇道、没有欲望。她们没有职业或者受教育的机会。因此，她们常与经济、政治无缘，并被认为是主内的。为确保女人对丈夫的忠诚，她们在婚前保持处女很重要。男性被视为社会的核心。我们应通过调查、分析性别差异在特定的社会及文化制度来加强男女平等。当今，我们应构建一个男女能和谐共处的和谐社会，这也是避免再次发生类似苔丝悲剧的有效途径。
