Abstract
This paper aims to discuss the loss of human nature in The Cop and the Anthem. Part one is on the analysis of the dramatis personae and the key words in the story. Part two is about the human nature in O. Henry’s story, shows that how human nature was lost at that time. Part three is on the effect of the writing style of the story, makes the previous human nature elicits the sudden striking ending. It helps people to understand the real significance of life—the pure hearted love and the virtuous friendship among people. This would benefit for modern society. The Cop And The Anthem is a story by O. Henry who is an American man novelist of the 20th century. While O. Henry’s work is read, many humorous and witty sentences will be found. Readers are unable to stifle a laugh, but at the same time, great compassion on Soapy is found, for there are unavoidable grievances in the humorous satire contained sad and tear. The Cop and the Anthem can serve as a mirror of the early 20th-century social reality-a materially rich land yet a spiritually waste land, characterized by the loss of human nature, which is the subject matter of this article. There are a lot of ugly phenomena which appeared in the society. It also causes the loss of human nature. Through the harm of the false points of view, dangerous false points of view can be seen.

本文通过第一部分对主人公和关键词的详细分析，第二部分对欧亨利作品中人性的介绍和第三部分对特殊的写作构思的探讨这三部分对《警察与赞美诗》中人性的丧失进行分析。通过分析，可以帮助现代人找到生命中的真谛——人与人之间真心的爱和纯真的友谊，这对现代人的社会价值观取向有很大帮助。《警察与赞美诗》是美国20世纪的小说家欧•亨利写的。当我们读到他的作品的时候，会反现很多幽默诙谐的句子，同时我们也会得到很多的反思。《警察与赞美诗》是20世纪早期的物质社会的真实写照，人性的丧失是小说的主题，社会的丑陋现象造成了人性的丧失。通过当时人们的错误社会价值观，我们可以看到很多错误的观点。
