EFFECT— THE ANALYSIS OF THE FALL OF THE HOUSE OF USHER THROUGH FIRST-PERSON NARRATIVE

Abstract: Edgar Allan Poe is regarded as one of the most outstanding short story writers and literary critics in American literature history, and his reputation extends worldwide. His unity of effect has a significant influence in literary society. The masterpiece The Fall of the House of Usher is considered as the most typical tale in practicing his theory. Based on the research of Poe’s major literary critics, this article gives the main content of the effect theory. The analysis of the narrator in The Fall of the House of Usher aims to revealing the positive function of the first-person narrator in the illustration of Poe’s unity of effect.

摘要：爱伦•坡是美国文学历史上最为杰出的短篇小说家和文学评论家之一，在世界范围内名声斐然。他的效果统一论在文学界产生了深远的影响。其代表作品《厄舍古屋的倒塌》被认为是最能体现其文学理论的作品。本文通过对坡主要文学批评的研究，概括总结出了其文学理论——效果论的主要内容，并结合对《厄舍古屋的倒塌》一文中叙述者的分析，探讨了第一人称的运用在效果论实现中的积极作用。
