英语缩略语的正确应用

随着科学技术的飞速发展,国际交往的日益频繁,英语缩略语已成为现代生活中必不可少的语言工具。日常生活中，无论电视，报纸，广播还是各种标识，随处可见缩略语的身影。它仿佛一面镜子折射出社会发展的各个方面。看似简单的英语缩略语在分类、读音、翻译、应用等方面均存在许多值得注意的地方。然而，目前国内外对英语缩略语的研究并不深入，国内很多缩略语词典仅仅只是对其全称的注释，国外很长一段时间缩略语的研究一直处于边缘地带。研究英语缩略语的基本知识及其使用中容易产生的问题,不仅可以减少和避免使用时出现的混乱或错误,而且可以看出社会的发展和变化。本文在已有研究成果基础上，从缩略语的定义，来源，分类，读音规则，翻译方法，应用场合等方面进行分析，举例说明。指出缩略语在使用过程中容易产生的问题，并提出正确使用英语缩略语的若干建议，以便人们更好地理解英语缩略语的基本知识，从而在生活中正确地应用缩略语。

The Proper Use of English Abbreviations

Abstract: With the rapid development of science and technology, and the frequent international exchanges, English abbreviations have become an essential language tool in our modern life. We can see them here and there, on televisions, magazines, broadcasting as well as all kinds of signs. They, like a mirror, reflect all aspects of the development of our social life. We may have an illusion that English abbreviations are easy to learn. In fact, there are many notable places in their classification, pronunciation, translation and application. However, both at home and abroad, studies of English abbreviations are deficient. Though there are numerous dictionaries about English abbreviations at home, they only have the full name of the abbreviations; the information is insufficient for us to refer to. Meanwhile, for a long time, English abbreviations have been treated as peripheral at abroad. By studying the basic knowledge of English abbreviations and problems that may be easily aroused in their application, can we not only reduce and avoid confusion or errors in their application; but also see developments and changes in society. Based on the results of previous research, this paper tries to analyze English abbreviations with reference to their definition, resource, classification, pronunciation rules, translation methods and applications. In some parts, I will provide some examples to support the theories. I will point out some problems that may easily arouse in their application. After that I will put forward some proposals and recommendations on the proper use of English abbreviations, so that people can enlarge their knowledge of English abbreviations, and use them appropriately in their daily life.
