别人的热闹，我的孤寂──达洛卫夫人形象探析弗吉尼亚•伍尔夫是英国著名的意识流小说代表作家，其作品既有小说也有文艺评论和随笔。而小说《达洛卫夫人》被认为是伍尔夫最具意识流特色的代表。在这部小说中伍尔夫另辟蹊径采用意识流手法进行创作，作者极力弱化了小说的故事情节而将笔墨投入到人物的内心世界的描写。小说通过展现达洛卫夫人一天的活动过程，用一天写尽一个女人的一生。本文主要以探析小说主人公达洛卫夫人的形象为主，通过分析原著中达洛卫夫人在伦敦街区为晚宴买花，晚宴开始前达洛卫夫人在家中及在晚宴上这三个场景人物形象的心理活动和意识变化来揭示人物性格形象与生存状态──“别人的热闹，我的孤寂”，并从爱情与现实的无奈选择，友情的荒芜和自我的缺失这三方面对产生这一形象和状态的原因进行探索。从该形象中，我们可以感受到同达洛卫夫人处境相像的上层社会贵妇的生存状态，她们的孤寂与痛苦，也可以窥视出经历过第一次世界大战后现代英国人的迷茫，困惑与恐惧，以及人与人之间的隔阂，从而揭示小说的社会现实意义。

Jollification for Others But Solitude for Myself──An Exploration of The Image of Mrs. Dalloway
Abstract: Virginia Woolf is a great English novelist of the stream of consciousness. Her works include novels, literary criticisms and essays. The novel Mrs Dalloway is regarded as the representative masterpiece of her in using the technique of stream of consciousness and the delicate artistry and lyrical prose of this novel have established her as a writer of profound talent. In this novel Virginia Woolf exercised her inventive mind by trying the technique of stream of consciousness. Woolf strongly weakened the story of the novel while dedicated her skills to the depiction of the inner world and mental activities of the characters. The novel detailed Mrs. Dalloway’s one day activities but succeeded in showing the whole life of her with the single day. In this paper the image of the heroine Mrs. Dalloway is explored. “Jollification for others, but solitude for myself”──Mrs. Dalloway’s image and her contradictory living state are revealed through the analyses of Mrs. Dalloway’s mental activities and her inner world in three scenes in the novel, namely: Mrs. Dalloway buying flowers for her party in the streets of London, Mrs. Dalloway being at home before the party and being at the party. The causes which resulted in her contradictory living state and forming such kind of image are also discussed here in the paper generally from three aspects: the resigned choice between true love and reality, a deficiency in friendship and a failure of self-actualization. At the end of the paper the social significances of Mrs. Dalloway is also revealed. From the image of Mrs. Dalloway──jollification for others but solitude for myself the gentlewoman living in contradiction and struggling we can see lots upper class women who were in the same situation like her. Much more importantly, we can feel the confusion and fear of modern British people after World War I; the barriers and estrangement between people.
